J.Crew Group, Inc. sells a variety of casual men's and women's clothing through catalogs, a retail store chain, and the company's website. The J.Crew catalog is published 24 times a year and has been distributed over 80 million times. It has 127 retail sites in the United States, 45 of which are factory outlets, and 76 retail locations in Japan that are run under license by ITOCHU Corporation. For the duration of its existence, J.Crew Group was controlled by the Cinader family, but in October 1997, Texas Pacific Group Inc. obtained a majority share in the company. By the year 2000, Texas Pacific owned approximately 62 percent of the company, a group of J.Crew managers owned about ten percent, and Emily Woods, the chairman of J.Crew and the company's creator, along with her father, Arthur Cinader, owned the majority of the remaining shares.
